CSA Rec Soccer Frequently Asked Questions about the Spring Season Cancellation

As a non-profit organization, we strive to offer the highest quality program possible at a reasonable cost to participants. Charlotte Soccer Academy is also committed to providing an opportunity for children to participate in grassroots, recreational level soccer. The COVID-19 pandemic has put the future of all recreational-level sports programming at risk. However, CSA remains committed to providing this level of play that is open to children of all skill levels. To accomplish this long-term goal, CSA must carefully manage all resources through the economic downturn. This is but one reason why we are unable to refund your registration fees. However, we have attempted to be responsive to team members and therefore are providing our members with a credit equal to 50% of their paid Spring 2020 registration fee, to be applied for the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 Rec program or competitive club fees. We are also providing an opportunity for your child to participate in a free, four-week summer soccer session. While this session cannot replace the team-based format and competition of our regular program, we wanted to provide an opportunity for players to enjoy soccer activities under the direction of our staff coaches. More information will be posted on our website www.CSARecSoccer.com and sent to families via broadcast email.

We also recognize that some members are suffering from economic hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and to offer some assistance, CSA has created an economic hardship refund program. Households experiencing a current economic hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic will be eligible to be considered for this program. Further details about this program will be available soon. Please contact the CSA financial aid committee at [email protected] and they will be in touch.

What happened to my Spring 2020 registration fees? Why can’t I get a full refund?

CSA Rec Soccer incurs well over 50% of the Club’s overall expenses for rec soccer prior to the start of each season. Each season, we have 1700 players in our rec program across seven venues. We have significant operational costs that we must pay to offer this program. Most of our members are not aware of the planning and administration costs incurred well before their child walks onto the field for their first practice such as website maintenance and online registration, coach recruitment and education, team assignment, practice scheduling, and game scheduling. In addition to the administrative costs, CSA incurs the costs associated with contracting the fields, maintaining and preparing the fields, maintaining, preparing and replacing equipment, and contracting portable lighting and bathrooms. These costs were incurred by CSA before play was suspended. CSA also paid non-recoverable fees associated with US Youth Soccer player registration, coach background checks, league participation and field usage.

CSA has agreed to provide a credit equal to 50% of the paid Spring 2020 registration fee, to be applied for the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 Rec program or competitive club fees. With the passage of the CARES Act, you may be able to deduct the remaining portion of your fees as a charitable donation on your 2020 taxes.

I don’t feel comfortable having my child participate this summer or fall. Can I get a refund instead of a credit?

We respect your concerns. Every family must make the decisions that are right for them. We are hopeful the situation will improve as the weeks go by. Our summer program is designed to allow people to join in whenever they feel comfortable doing so. CSA’s utmost concern is the safety and wellbeing of our players. To this end, we have developed a back-to-play plan based on the latest advice sent to us by the state and National Youth Soccer governing bodies as well as feedback
from medical professionals and the guidelines set forth by the Governor and CDC.

You will receive a 50% credit of your Spring 2020 rec registration fees regardless of whether your player participates in summer training. If your child cannot participate in the Fall 2020 rec season, the 50% credit can be used for the Spring 2021 season, with the remaining 50% of your fees eligible to be designated as a charitable donation under the CARES Act.

If you choose not to return to CSA within the next year, then your full Spring 2020 registration fee may qualify a charitable donation to our non-profit program but be sure to consult your tax advisor.

We just bought a uniform for this season. Can we use it again next year?

Yes. CSA Rec will be phasing in new uniforms beginning in the fallas the older version is no longer in production. The new uniforms will be a lighter shade of blue, but the current blue uniforms can be used for the fall and spring Rec seasons.
